Flue pipes for old boilers, gas fires and warm air heating were often made of asbestos cement, which HSE lists among typical locations in buildings from before 2000 (HSE). You'll often find them running through a loft or airing cupboard.
Replacing a boiler or fire
Tell your installer if you think the flue may contain asbestos and get it tested before they start. They should not cut or break it.
Options
- Leave a sound, redundant flue in place where safe and sealed.
- Have it removed whole by a competent contractor following HSE guidance.
